5 Ways To Plan a Coronation Party

We are getting VERY excited for the King Charles III Coronation celebrations taking place over the bank holiday weekend.

Location…where will your Coronation party take place?

When you think about a special Royal event, the first idea that pops into most people’s head is a street party! There is nothing better than getting your local community together than a party with all your neighbours down your street. Don’t forget that street parties are wonderful, but you need permission from your local council- here is the link to the government website for more info.  Therefore, a  garden party is a wonderful way to celebrate the Kings Coronation, it’s a much more affordable than hiring a venue and less stress than planning a street party.

Decorations, now this is the fun part!

Firstly, the iconic colours of the union jack will take centre stage for a Coronation party of red, white, and blue. For example, we can picture lots of bunting, with union jack patterns on, or the lovely fabric traditional bunting. A great way to add an easy way to add colour is by using tablecloths, we have many to hire especially in red, white, and blue.  Therefore you could have a large white tablecloth, with a blue runner and red napkins, and then using colourful napkins will tie your colours together and as a result make the table more luxurious than a paper napkin.

So, we created our own union jack runner by firstly buying ½ a meter of fabric from eBay for £5,  secondly we folded over the edges, then finally ironed into place and it was created! Here is the link to our Instagram page with all the information on how to make it. 

Lastly, flowers always create an impact on a table or at an event, make your own vases out of old jam jars or hire in little bud vases or larger vases for more of an impact. Use flowers from your garden, or your local florist will have lots of in season flowers (flowers in season are more affordable). Furniture, where will every one sit. Rather important! 

Lets say, you have lots of guest coming to your party, it’s time to think about what furniture you need and where everyone will sit & eat their Coronation lunch. we recommend a trestle tables, as they give an  instant image when it comes to a street party, these do also work brilliantly for a garden party. You can hire whitewashed wooden trestle or our new rustic wooden tables.

Most importantly, where will everyone sit?  Match the tables with wooden benches, these are great to squeeze as many guests as you can around a table, or for the children to sit on.  Alternately, we have a variety of chairs to hire like cross backs, the gold gilt chairs which can add a very regal look, these dark wooden folding chairs, which you can add a red, white, and blue ribbon to, or our pretty garden chairs. A more cost-effective option is white plastic garden chair, don’t forget you can add chair cushions to these to link your colour theme.

To relax in your garden, why not hire in some deck chairs, a fun and traditional way to enjoy the sunshine and celebrations, and above all its a Bank Holiday weekend.  We know the British weather is unpredictable, so to keep you protected from the elements, therefore don’t forget to hire in a gazebo, we have them in two sizes and are heavy duty ones, which won’t fly away on a blustery day! Likewise, If the night turns a bit chilly, keep your guests warm with a patio heater, or keep them cool with a parasol!

Food & drink, have you heard about the King’s dish?

So, what will you eat? A King’s Coronation wouldn’t be a party without an afternoon tea, think sconces, jam and clotted cream with a hot cup of tea! You can hire in some vintage bone china and cake stands to give your guests special treat, here is a great link to a Mary Berry the Queen of baking scones!  

The food for the King’s Coronation is a quiche, who would have thought!? King Charles III and Queen Camilla have announced that a quiche as the official coronation dish. The idea for people cook the dish at home and share on the Coronation’s Big Lunch, which is a nationwide feast. The features has spinach, broad beans, cheese and tarragon, here is the recipe from The Royal Family. 

If quiche isn’t your thing, why not have a BBQ, don’t forget to hire in the extra fridges to keep all your beverage cold, or an ice-cream freezer to stop your lollies from melting. If you are serving up some coronation chicken sandwiches, we have a large variety of catering equipment to hire from platter dishes, tea urns, glassware, cookers, and more.

To keep your guests hydrated, we have a rustic pop up bar which would look wonderful with a some union Jack bunting on the front of it, create a drinks station for the children with large drink dispenser s filled with soft drinks.

Entertainment, now lets get the party started!

Last but not least, here are some fun and games to keep your guests entertained. Therefore we love a competitive game of skittles, it adds such fun to a party and all ages can play,  don’t forget to use a chalk board to keep score of who is winning.  No garden party should be without giant Jenga on the grass, along with a traditional game of tug of war!!  If you want to dance the night away, we even have a dance floor, get your play list going with our duke box and dance under the stars!
